Barack Obama's campaign has met a major obstacle this week: Jerome Corsi's book, Obama Nation is now at the top of the New York Times Bestseller's List (imagine the NYTimes' horror!). Even though Corsi is a radical right-wing fringe guy, many people are reading Obama Nation. This is mostly because they either feel uneasy about Obama being President, or that they just want to learn more about him because he is relatively new on the political scene - a point that the Mccain campaign has stressed countless times.
Now we hear news that Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama! Powell is well liked and respected by both Republicans and Democrats, which will provide a significant boost in Obama's support, and will be a significant setback for the McCain campaign. As a result of this, Obama Nation will be regarded as yesterday's news - all the buzz will be about Colin Powell and Obama.
It is also likely that Obama will make Colin Powell Defence Secretary (if he becomes President). This will put to rest any fears of an Obama administration not being strong on defence and foreign affairs. This development has the potential of not only burying Jerome Corsi's book Obama Nation, it also has a STRONG potential of making Obama President of the United States!

i can only hope that gen powell is smarter than that.
So many Americans are unfortunately worried about having a black president and are looking for any reason to slam Obama. I think that McCain will be much worse for America then us having a black president. I will be glad when this election is over, but if Obama wins, that won't be the end of it as people will then look at every single thing he does to try and be able to say "I told you so."
And no, I'm not black just an American that is tired of the whole scandal mongering process this is turning out to be.
unfortunately delaney, commentators, obama surrogates and & obama himself have put this myth out there about how racist america still is, that obama isn't way ahead in the polls because of racism, and any attack on his positions or past are rascist. I'm afraid it is not about having a black president but an inexperienced, incompetent president who is the greatest salesman of himself since clinton.
Colin Powell is yesterday's man. He has no influence on much of anyone at all. His 15 minutes are well and truly up.
Frankly and it's getting harder NOT to be frank all the time on this issue, his endorsement would be viewed by 99.9 % of the swayable public merely as one black man supporting another. Only that and nothing more. Obama and his lockstep black support has made him into the 'black' candidate. A position he knew from the beginning would be disastrous. And as the stagnant polls indicate---- it has been. He cannot 'grow' his support at this point. He can only either keep it or lose it.
When polls indicate that 90%+ of black voters will vote for Obama no matter what, the surprise would be if Powell told Obama to pound salt.
Again to be blunt, Powell's support would be if anything counterproductive. In that it would do virtually nothing for Obama's catastrophic inexperience problem while simultaneously highlighting the very serious 'black candidate' problem.
Not to mention what it would do to what is left of Powell's public persona. If Powell is as careful and bureaucratic as he has always been, he will decide to sit this one out, and just remain a private citizen with a private vote.
Is this the same black American who went before the U.N. claiming that Saddam Hussein had WMD's ? In case you've forgotten Colin Powell lost all of his credibility four years ago, and is not seen any longer as a man of integrity and trustworthiness.
I'm not sure Powell will make too much difference. In the end, I think Mc Cain will win because the conservatives have no choice but to vote for him and he will also pick up lots of votes from the left.
Its too bad we don't have a conservative candidate running this time.
