The campaign is about to start and the only parties that are starting off on a strong footing are the NDP and the Conservatives. The NDP is seizing the high popularity of Jack Layton, portraying him as a potential Prime Minister! Also, the NDP is planing on a huge advertising blitz this campaign, and apparently they will skip over the Liberals and directly attack Stephen Harper.
I'm not underestimating Dion and the Liberals, but the start of their campaign is an embarrassment to their party. The Liberals do not have a campaign plane ready. The plane that they have rented is an Air Inuit Boeing 737 built in 1979! No offence to Air Inuit, but a plane from 1979 is not necessarily very fuel efficient - I can only see the political cartoons...Dion flying on a gas guzzler while proposing a carbon tax...that is embarrassing and stupid! Maybe they did not intend on renting that plane, but it was the only thing they can afford. Also, if the Green Shift was implemented, that plane would probably be too expensive to operate, and if Air Inuit only has planes like that, Dion's Green Shift, if implemented, would probably bankrupt them!
Now to the Conservatives. They are showcasing Stephen Harper, and their message of it being unwise to risk a change of government is an effective one when we're on the verge of a recession. Stephan Dion's plan of attack is a godsend for the Conservatives. So far, he has tried to compare Stephen Harper with George Bush, which is ludicrous, and when Dion says that voters have to stop Harper from forming a majority he basically admits defeat.
It is to early to call this race, but by the way its starting up, the Liberals look like they are not just going to have a bumpy ride on their campaign plane!

I'm not one to give Layton free advise so I'll be brief.
The NDP and US democrats need to stop claiming that all the people who don't vote for them are un-educated/slack-jawed/idiots that don't see the benefits to letting the Government raise their kids and use schools to force the secular-Humanism tenets on all the students.
Keep in minds that Layton allowed a Convicted Felon to run for the NDP in B.C. ( Svend Robinson) , and he also allowed a Pro-Sharia/anti-gay/anti-abortion Muslim to run in the Ottawa area , in fact it was the wife of Maher Arar who at the time was Suing us canadians for $400'000'000.00 dollars for what Jordan did to him .
Try to imagine the NDP having to vote on the Budget that approves the $400 Million settlement for the Husband of a M.P. while the spouse is a sitting member that gets to vote for the money.
Do you now see why the NDP is so friendly with the Islamists and Sharia-law yahoos , maybe if Jack sent Libby Davies to Afghanistan she could at least stand in front of our troops to slow down the bullets since she won't stand behind the troops.
Maybe if the NDP had managed to ban Junk-Food we wouldn't have to grease the doorways to get Libby into Parliament with a ram-rod manned by 5 over-weight CUPE goons.
In rural southwestern Ontario, I will be voting Conservative again. Canada deserves a leader that can be counted on to make the right decisions for this country. Harper has proven to Canadian voters that his government was the right choice last time and will be this time.
Leader Stephane Dion is "walking the talk," said a Liberal release. "Stephen Harper wouldn't even walk across the street to go to Rideau Hall."
Yes, the Liberals are buying carbon offsets for their plane. They even bought a one tonne offset for Steve to cover Yo Harper's motorcade trip to Rideau Hall.
I was at parliament Hill today and i witnessed Dion being interviewed by the media in front of his bus. I shook hands with him and wished hime luck. Anyway, he came across as a nice guy, but he reminds me of one of my professors, no seriously! He is a far cry form Paul Martin, who I have also met...
I might hate this election. I'm way too liberal (small 'l') to vote for a Conservative representative. I like the NDP's platform best, but I'm not sure what voting NDP will accomplish. I don't care for Stephane Dion. It's not that he's particularly bad at anything (except marketing), but that he's not particularly impressive to me. The Green Party doesn't meet my needs platform-wise.
Not that it matters. The Tories always win my riding. The Tory leader here is a good guy so I live with that, but voting feels a bit futile where I live.
